DNA sequencing available to the masses

Dr. Jonathan Rothberg, founder of Ion Torrent, has made DNA sequencing available to the masses by producing a sequencing machine called, the Personal Genome Machine. It's about the size of a large printer and is capable of sequencing infectious agents (e.g. viruses!) right in the hospital, clinic, or lab. If and when this technology becomes viral, it will substantially impact medicine - especially in facilitating diagnoses and allowing for more accurate treatment.
