In Brittan, oral cancer in young people has more than doubled in the last three decades and the main cause is human papilloma virus. The virus is transmitted to the mouth and throat through oral sex. Advocates for the HPV vaccine are calling for all boys to be vaccinated before they are sexually active. The vaccine will also protect boys against genital warts and anal cancer. One study claimed that HPV causes a 14 fold increase in chances of having oral cancer. Gardasil is 98% effective in preventing HPV.
